Miami-Dade County Commissioner Joe A. Martinez was first elected to represent the residents of District 11 in October 2000 and was re-elected by a wide margin for his third term in August 2008.  His commission district is mostly comprised of West Dade's unincorporated areas, which includes portions of Kendall.

Open registration for the 2008 Waiting List is now closed - All of the names of applicants who completed the online registration between July 1-31, 2008 will be entered into an electronic lottery in which a computer will randomly select the applicant names and assign them two ranking positions, one for the Public Housing, Moderate Rehabilitation and Section 8 New Construction programs and another one for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program.
